Master Israeli sculptor, painter and 1995 Israel prize laureate, Menashe Kadishman (1932-2015) served as a shepherd in the Galilee during his early adulthood.
This period of his life had a great impact on his oeuvre. Kadishman studied at the Avni Institute for Art and Design in Tel Aviv where he learned under the watchful eye of legendary art teacher, Moshe Sternschuss. Kadishman continued to pursue his artistic education at St. Martins School of Art in London.
After completing his studies, Menashe Kadishman returned to Israel where he established himself as a leading Israeli artist. Kadishman represented the young state at Documenta 1968 in Germany and at the 18th Biennale di Venezia in Venice a decade later. Kadishman’s wide range of styles evolved from his minimalist sculptures to his Integral Nature period and then to his Existential Cycle, expressing the fundamental concerns of mankind: birth, grief, joy, sacrifice and death.
His Iconic sheep paintings and metal sculptures can be found in museums, private collections, public spaces and sculpture parks throughout the world.
